Can My Upholstery Be Cleaned?

It's very easy, and very difficult to know if your upholstery can be cleaned with water (or steam-cleaned).  Kinda an oxy-moron, huh?  Well, let me explain why.

If you look under one of the cushion of your sofa, there should be somewhere in there a tag that has a "care" tag with a capital letter circled, indicating the type of cleaning acceptable for your upholstery.  You may find a "W" which indicates water cleaning, an "S" which indicates solvent cleaning, or something similar.

But, we've cleaned upholstery with "S" tags with no problems.  How can that be?

Well, when I was taking a IICRC class last month to keep current on my knowledge and new innovations, the instructor who has been in the business for over 25 years mentioned that when the tags are being attached that there's just someone there slapping them on that has no idea what they are doing and if it matches the fabric or not.  Now, I have no proof of that :-), but it does make sense.

Anyway, some fabrics are more difficult to clean than others:

WHITE COTTON - this is extremely difficult to clean.  Not only do stains come back easily, but there can easily be yellowing problems.  Therefore, if you have a white cotton sofa that we are willing to clean, it will cost $300 or more for the work and risk involved.

 

FAUX SUEDE - very often, we decline cleaning faux suede.  You know how you can brush your hand over it one way and it's one color, then the other way and it's a different color?  Well, if the temperature it too hot, or if it's not brushed properly when it's cleaned, then its ruined.  So, we do not clean faux suede.

 

BUT THE GOOD NEWS....
